The present status of organ preservation: a review.

چکیده
IN THE LAST DECADE there has been some advancement in the field of organ transplantation, but organ preservation remains in the embryonic stage. The necessity for a simple and efficient method for organ preservation is becoming increasingly important. In 1951, Dempster said, 'If the immunological problems, and other problems involved in procuring a normal functioning organ were solved our difficulties would be by no means over'. While there is no difficulty in preserving skin and blood vessels in the frozen state, other organs require more delicate handling. Many research workers in this field are aiming at the possibility of setting up organ banks, but this wishful thought remains still a distant goal. Storage of organs up to 24-48 hr (especially of the kidney) has been attempted, but there is not yet a reliable simple method for use in clinical practice.

Background and Aims: Chemotherapy is utilized as a part of combined-modality programs to achieve organ preservation and improve survival in patients with locally advanced head and neck cancer. Combinedmodality protocols can be used in three forms: a) neoadjuvant induction chemotherapy before definitive surgery or radiotherapy; b) concomitant chemoradiotherapy; and c) sequential therapy consisti...

SUMMARY: Organ transplantation has developed over the past 50 years to reach the sophisticated and integrated clinical service of today through several advances in science. One of the most important of these has been the ability to apply organ preservation protocols to deliver donor organs of high quality, via a network of organ exchange to match the most suitable recipient patient to the best ...
متن کاملHuman Cytomegalovirus: Infections and Diagnosis
Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is a ubiquitous virus whose sole host is humans. Since HCMV can contagion from person to person through numerous ways, vast populations of humans are infected. HCMV infections can potentially have a range from asymptomatic infection in immuno-competent hosts to life-threatening diseases in organ recipients and patients with AIDS. The present article reviews the occu...

The Present study carried out on the bone samples collected from Roopkund Lake in Chamoli Garhwal, Uttarakhand, which is located 5029 meters from main sea level in between Nanda Ghunghti and Trishuli peak. This historical site belongs to the 9th century A.D. All the samples selected for the study were dried in room temperature, as well as in hot air ovens at 32 degree Celsius. The Cleaning, pr...
متن کاملPast, Present, and Future of Dynamic Kidney and Liver Preservation and Resuscitation.
The increased demand for organs has led to the increased usage of "higher risk" kidney and liver grafts. These grafts from donation after circulatory death or expanded criteria donors are more susceptible to preservation injury and have a higher risk of unfavorable outcomes. Dynamic, instead of static, preservation could allow for organ optimization, offering a platform for viability assessment...
